As a component of a cleanroom system, a Pass Through Box decontaminates materials transferred between two environments. The pass-through box consists of a single chamber with interlocked doors installed into a cleanroom wall. When the door on one side is open, the other remains closed to prevent contamination transfer between areas with different cleanliness levels. This solution is ideal for transferring small or large parts, wheeled carts, or personnel between labs.

Depending on the size and use of your sterile environment, you can choose from three main types of cleanroom pass through boxes:

White static pass-through box for ISO7 and above clean rooms.
The white static pass-through box, also known as a cleanroom transfer station, is a hygienic solution for the safe and efficient transfer of equipment in a clean room process. Oftentimes, materials must be exchanged between two separate laboratories with different standards and processes that must run simultaneously. The white static pass-through box helps minimize operator fluxes that can increase contamination risks and reduce productivity in a cleanroom.

Stainless Steel Cleanroom Transfer Hatch
The Stainless Steel Cleanroom Pass-Thru hatch is built with a stainless steel 1.4301 casing and glazed doors, mounted into a cleanroom wall to provide an enclosed pass-through from one clean area to another. The tempered glass allows for viewing of the material inside and the door leaves are firmly locked in place with stainless steel lift latches. This pass-through design eliminates the need for a mechanical interlock and can be used for transferring large or heavy equipment, as well as continuous process feeds.

Mechanical and electrical interlock systems allow for one door to be opened while the other remains closed, preventing contamination transfer between the two sides. They are programmable and feature timers to ensure the correct sanitizing cycle is completed before the doors are opened again.

UVC Pass-Through Box
Whether you need to decontaminate clipboards, documents, packaging, laminated items, pens, eyewear or PPE in your sterile processing ecosystem, an ultraviolet germicidal (UVC) pass through box can be a simple and economical option. These units are programmable for continuous operation and deliver a precise dose of UVC light to the item(s) inside while ensuring the surrounding air remains unaffected.

This type of physical decontamination provides a much quicker turnaround than chemical or heat decontamination and works especially well for the smaller items that would not be suitable for thermal sterilization or exposure to volatile organic compounds. These units are also a great choice for those that don’t want to install a permanent fixture in the cleanroom and can be moved as needed. They can even be installed at a remote location, making them an extremely versatile solution for your cleanroom.
